POLITICAL CARTOONS ARE SHORT LIVED

The political cartoon by Shanker on Dr. Ambedkar, now under controversy was drawn in the year 1949 when Dr. Ambedkar was in active politics.

Political cartoons as widely known is a comical drawing on certain current political issue with the object of passing a satirical remark rather humor-sly, and as soon as that issue ends the cartoon dies its natural death.

Cartoon is not a fine form of Art which carries human social values of  permanent character. Therefore, the very use of a political cartoon after decades that too in a text book raises serious question about the intention of selectors.

NCERT is supposed to be and should be a pious institution because it has been entrusted with a huge responsibility of building of the mindset of future citizens. As is known the Education Departments refuse to recognize the degrees of educational institutions whose syllabus is not approved syllabus of NCERT.

The political cartoon of a remote past when used appears to be in the nature of a malicious personal satire which is the work of a Lampoon-er and not a work of a cartoonist and that is the point of controversy and reason of unhappiness. NCERT should comprise of Educationist having wide knowledge and experience and having unblemished record.

Dr. Babab Sahib Bhimraw Ambedkar is a pride of the nation. The names of Dr. Ambedkar and the Constitution of India go side by side. If democracy in India has been a great success and has become exemplary despite many religions caste and languages thanks to Dr. Ambedkar's historic contributions . He will remain in the hearts of the Indian forever.
